We are seeking to recruit a suitably experienced Cook-in-Charge to oversee the operations of the kitchen at Juniper Guwardi Ngadu. This facility provides quality care for up to 24 older Aboriginal people within Fitzroy Crossing, 2500kms from Perth, in the Kimberley region. The successful candidate must be able to embrace and encourage culturally appropriate service delivery.

The purpose of this role is to prepare and cook high quality, nutritious meals to meet our residents’ special dietary requirements. You will be responsible for supervising a team of catering staff and ensuring all policies and procedures are being adhered to. You will also make sure that the quality of meals is maintained at a high standard. 

On offer for the successful candidate will be a full time position, working a variety of days and hours to meet facility needs.

Key Responsibilities of this role:

  • Preparing and cooking high quality, nourishing meals for our residents
  • Monitoring all practices within the catering centre to ensure safe food handling and infection control procedures are being adhered to
  • Ensure all areas of the kitchen are cleaned to the highest standards
  • Stock control management, replenishing and ordering stock as required
  • Compliancy with Juniper’s Occupational, Safety and Health requirements

The Skills, Knowledge and Experience required:

  • Trade certification or experience in a commercial cooking environment and/or aged care catering is required
  • Basic knowledge of dietary nutrition for the aged is preferred
  • Ability to manage bulk ordering, purchasing, and stock control of food
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Empathy for elderly residents
